RenegadeMagazine.comAfter Ohio bike week I gave my friend Aaron Brown a call
to see if I could drop by his shop to check out his worlds
fastest street legal rat rod! He was not at his shop, he was
in Indianapolis working for some clients who were racing in
the Indy Vintage Races. Aaron invited me to come spend
the week and hanging out while he worked with his clients
setting up their vintage race cars.
Aaron is truly a wizard at setting up a racecar! He worked
his way up through the ranks of NASCAR and was eventu -
ally asked by Dale Earnhardt to come work for him as crew
chief at Dale Earnhardt Inc. Unfortunately Dale Sr. was
killed right after he started working there. Aaron went on
to help both Dale Jr. and Michael Waltrip win the coveted
Daytona 500 and many other cup races, becoming one of
the winingest crew chiefs in NASCAR.
After retiring from the high pressure world of NAS-
CAR Aaron spends his days as a hired gun for vari-
ous drivers and setting world records with his rat rod!
It was a honor and a pleaser to watch Aaron do his
thing, his laid back style and extensive knowledge
of race cars had his clients cars the fastest cars on
the track! Putting Jody Odonnell on the pole in both
classes he was running in and taking a first place
win in one of them, he probably would have won the
other if he hadn’t over run a turn and lost his position
early in the race.
I spent most of the week just walking around the
track shooting photos of all the cool vintage cars
that were there at the track. There was everything
from pre-war cars to modern Indy cars, it was a car
guys paradice!
