RenegadeMagazine.comI don’t know about you but finding that proverbial
basket case bike to build from the ground up has
always been a goal of mine. I finally found the
perfect one! I paid $700.00 for a 1977 Ironhead
Sportster with a ridged frame, bonus! I know I
probably paid too much for it. The guy I bought
it from got it for only $200! I tried to get it for
$400, but he knew I had just gotten some cash
together for my Zombie Apocalypse Tour, so he
took me for $700. This is a true basket case bike,
the entire bike was in plastic tubs, everything in-
cluding the motor was torn apart. The only thing
that was still in one piece was the main case and
crank. The transmission was in a couple different
shoeboxes, with the rest of the bike scattered in
various boxes. At first glance it appeared that I
had most of the bike, but upon closer inspection
many of the parts were just plain junk and not
worth using.
I bought this bike to build in hopes of selling
it to raise the funds I need to cover my travel
expenses for my Zombie Tour and Kus-
tom Kulture Circus documentary film and
photo book project. The plan is to build a
kick ass custom bike with out spending a
fortune, to fabricate as many parts and do-
ing as much of the work myself and make
it a one of a kind bike that will stand out in
a crowd.
At first I thought about building something
totally unique and bad ass! But then after
giving it some thought I realized I’d be bet-
ter off if I keep it simple, bad ass but simple
if you know what I mean. I realized if I made
it to unique it would be harder to sell. I know
most people don’t have much of an imagina-
tion and are afraid to step to far out of their
comfort zone, so I’m going with the traditional
bobber style. Renegade Bobber style that is! So
stay tuned to see what I can come up with, and if
you start saving your lunch money now, you just
might get to be the proud owner of this kick ass
