The ride from Brumunddal… For those that
haven’t been to Norway in February, it’s just a
little too cold for a bike ride. This 1928 Harley
Davidson JD 74 cubic inch motor witha 1951
Steib (German) sidecar, ws originally shipped
to Norway in 1928 was purchased in Bru-
munddal Norway in February 2004 and paid
for by my good friend Svein Rolfstad. If you
haven’t head of Svin, he’s a top-fuel motor-
cycle racer in Norway (He’s the fastest man
in Europe). Some people would accuse him
of being a little touched, after watching him
race, which is where I’m going with this. From
Brumunddal to Svein’s house is 13 miles in a
straight line, the only problem is there’s lake
Mjosa (Norway’s biggest lake).
Most normal people would just load it up on a
trailer to get it back home, but you know that
would be just to easy for Svein. So he put the
snow chain on the rear tire and attached the
ski that came with the bike to the front wheel
and to the sidecar wheel. After a little tweeking
he got the old girl firred up and road it down to
the lake and almost went for it but his common
since told him the ice wasn’t thick enough and
decided to play it safe and take the long road
around the lake back to his place, 43 miles
in 25 degree weather with snow falling. Svein
knew how badly I wanted this bike and he
made it happen for me!
When I asked him why he didn’t take a trailer
to pick up the bike? His response was
priceless.
“I wanted to see how well the ski’s
worked.”
