I purchased the bike in sept 2011 it was 100% stock

with only 12,000 miles. This was my first full project

build bike. I’ve been riding since I was 15 and I have

many different bikes over the years from Honda rebel

for first to Harley’s etc. but I’d never taken on a full

build I had a mind set of hardtail, flake paint and ape

hangers and make it as nice as possible. So I started

tearing it apart in spring 2012 after my parts starting

coming in. I had no fancy “jig table” or anything. So I

figured to hell with it lets get to

cutting. I did most my build at

my garage behind my parents

home.

The night I put it on the bike jack figured out my mea-

surements of where to cut the back end off for the

hardtail, my dad came down after I did it and said

“there’s no way that bike will ever see the road again”

I held onto those words thinking I’ll show him!!! By the

end that night I had made a roller. Fast forward a year

I had pushed the bike around from garage to my bike

trailer to store and periodically work on it. I have a bad

habit of starting project cars, trucks and this bike and

not finishing! May 2013 I got the bike bug again and

knew it was time to finish this thing. Ppg paints de-

cided to jump on with me and sponsor all my paints

for my build which kept the fire burning to move for-

ward.

I got all the tins body worked and primed no welds

to show on tank or fender so I layed down black

base then mini black flake

and larger black flake and

then cleared it. Next step was

water sand it and tape off for

the scallops and spray “war bonnet yellow” which

I’d seen on a 71 corvette I knew I wanted that col-

or combo black and gold. After spraying the gold I

cleared it again then water sanded all the pieces so

you feel no edges. Pinstripe by Michael laid down

The red and white stripes and cleared for the last

time in total I sprayed over 30 coats of material. Then

came slickin the frame I ground and wiped all welds

in so nothing showed. I painted the frame a semi

I’ll show him!!!
